A Card I Should Have Saved for Friday the 13th, Uncle Larry and Doing it the Old Fashioned Way

 Random.org chose the following as my random card of the day. This 2012 In the Game Between the Pipes #144 featuring Bernie Parent of the Philadelphia Flyers.

Oddly that's the 2nd card from this set to be picked by the randomizer in a couple of weeks. All I can say is he's no Gerry Cheevers, at least in terms of artistic styling.

My random postcard of the day is this card from Ontario Canada featuring a Mennonite farmer

We don't have Amish in Canada like in the US, but the Mennonites are a similar faith. Their faith beliefs are similar, but the Mennonites are generally more accepting of modern technologies, such as allowing electricity and phones. Even motorized vehicles are permitted, although many still do maintain the practice of horse-drawn buggies.

There are actually more Mennonites in the US than in Canada, and most Mennonite communities here actually emigrated from the US in the early part of the 19th century.

A North Star, a Yankee and a Tourist Trap

 Random.org chose the following as my random card of the day. This 2023 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Legends #47 featuring Brian Bellows of the Minnesota North Stars.

Legend ? That might be pushing the definition a little bit. I mean he did score almost 500 goals and play in almost 1,200 games. But he's not in the Hall of Fame, and I don't really recall any outcry about his exclusion. Feels more like one of those guys who put up big numbers during the most offensive oriented era in NHL history.

I currently own 14 Bellows cards and 186 Minnesota North Stars cards.

My favourite new card I added to my catalogue recently is this 2023 Bowman Draft #BD-30 featuring Roc Riggio of the New York Yankees.

No idea if Riggio is a legit prospect or not. Looking him up, he's a career .212 hitter after 2 minor league seasons. Likely just another guy in a Bowman set who never makes The Show. But it's cool to have a card of a guy named Roc Riggio.

My random postcard of the day is this card from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada showing well, the Falls.

Niagara Falls is a short drive from where I live, so it's frankly not a big deal for me, no different than Big Ben for someone in London or the Eiffel Tower for a Paris resident etc. It is one of the few places where you can still easily buy postcards here even if they all are on the same theme. This card is unwritten, and I would have bought it there. I currently have 566 catalogued cards from Canada in my collection.

A Penguin, a Seagull and a Subway

 Random.org chose the following as my random card of the day. This 2023 Tim Hortons Legends - Canvas Legends #CL-10 featuring Mario Lemieux of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Random.org seems to be on a hockey kick as I think this is now 6 days in a row where our random has drawn a hockey card. Not surprising since hockey is the largest segment in my collection. Sometimes card companies stretch things just a bit in 'legends' etc type inserts, but I'm gonna say they got this one right. I managed to pull 14 of the 15 cards in the set. Is it too corny to say the hole in my set is the man himself Tim Horton ?

I currently own 53 Lemieux cards and 777 Pittsburgh Penguins cards.

My favourite new card I added to my catalogue recently is this 2022 Panini Select Premier League #250 featuring Evan Ferguson of Brighton & Hove Albion. 

Picked by virtue of being the 1000th soccer card I've logged into my collection. The team I support isn't in the English Premier League, but that league obviously gets the most coverage here in Canada, and if there is a team I can say I support in that league, it would be Brighton. So that would explain picking the card up. Sounds like Ferguson may be on his way out the door to Man Utd. Such is life as a selling club. If they get 50 million for him, history suggests they'll use it wisely.

My random postcard of the day is this card from Toronto showing a M-1 class TTC subway train.

Trains are cool, train postcards are cool. I bought this card at a local(ish) railway museum. Rail museums are cool too. I have currently catalogued 566 postcards from Canada.

A Titan, a Blue Jay and a Hall of Fame

 Random.org chose the following as my random card of the day. This 2018 Panini Certified Football - Mirror Silver parallel #150 featuring Harold Landry of the Tennessee Titans.

I appear to be the only person who has this card in their collection on TCDB, although oddly, I didn't submit the image so where it came from who knows. I own serial number 305 out of the 499. Must confess I really don't know much about Mr. Landry, but looking him up, I see he still plays for the Titans, so he's had a decent enough run in the NFL. Might be time to track down a Boston College card of his for my ATR project.

My favourite new card I added to my catalogue yesterday is this 2017 Bowman Draft - Class of 2017 Autographs insert # C17A-LW featuring Logan Warmoth of the Toronto Blue Jays. Favourite as it was a first card of him for the Blue Jays ATR and a first auto of his, even if I'm not a big auto chaser.

Warmoth was a first round pick of the Jays that year, but has never appeared in a MLB game. He's still grinding it out in the minors. Looking it up, he's with the Mariners Double A club right now hitting a robust .193. After putting up a .091 at AAA in Tacoma, getting released and a .100 at Reno this year. Guessing that MLB debut might have to wait a while.

My random postcard of the day is this card featuring the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario Canada. This is its previous location on the grounds of the Canadian National Exhibition along the Toronto waterfront, it has since moved to a new building in downtown Toronto.

This card is unwritten and I bought it, although I don't recall where. I currently own, or at least have catalogued 566 postcards from Canada.

A Raven (again), a Bruin and a Rock

 Random.org chose the following as my random card of the day. 2012 Topps Platinum Football #53 featuring Joe Flacco of the Baltimore Ravens.

Rather odd that Random.org not only picks 2 football cards in a row when it is the least focused sport in my collection, but even 2 guys from the same team. Honestly, I was happier to get one of his Delaware cards for my ATR project (see below), although I have to admit to being shocked that I owned a Delaware Blue Hens card and it wasn't Flacco. Anyway a card of a guy who probably falls into the 'Hall of Very Good' category for today.

I currently own 3 Flacco cards and 135 Baltimore Ravens cards.

My favourite new card I added to my catalogue yesterday is this 2017 Upper Deck Trilogy - Blue Foil #44 featuring Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins.

I don't PC Bergeron (or anyone really), but he falls into a small group of players who if I see a reasonable card of theirs I will pick it up. I actually own more Bergeron cards than any other athlete. Even as a Leafs fan, I can admire what a hell of a good hockey player he was.

My random postcard of the day is this card from Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada featuring Turtle Rock. Algonquin Park is one of my favourite spots in the world. 

I usually try to take at least 2 hiking trips there a year to do wildlife photography. Maybe I should add a random wildlife photo I have taken to the blog, I guess seeking out new species is a form of collecting ? Just with more sunburn and bug bites than cards. I would have bought this card in the park, and it is unwritten. I currently own 566 postcards from Canada.
