A Ranger, A Canadian Heart-breaker and a Sweet Way to Sell Chocolate

Back after 2 days away on the weekend.

Random.org chose the following as my random card of the day. This 1999 Topps Gold Label #14 featuring Theoren Fleury of the New York Rangers.

Have to admit was never the biggest Fleury fan, but he was certainly a very good player and you have to respect his making it to such a career given his size and some of the things in his background. What he's done after his career is certainly worthy of all the praise you can send his way.

I currently own 16 Fleury cards and 896 New York Rangers cards.

My favourite new card I added to my catalogue recently is this 1999 Upper Deck Black Diamond #11 featuring Dominik Hasek of the Buffalo Sabres.

Figure I will stick in the same year and go with a card of the best goaltender in my lifetime. Just wish it wasn't from that stretch of horrible uniforms the Sabres went through. Give me the classic Blue and Gold. I guess the good news is it isn't the Buffaslug.

New additions to my all-time roster project catalogued yesterday were just 1:

My All-time roster project now stands at 15,031 combinations.

My random postcard of the day is this card from France depicting an old time German (assuming based on the language) advertisement for cocoa.

The card is French, showing a German ad and was bought in a shop in Copenhagen, Denmark. Old timey advertisements is a theme fairly common on postcards and one I would certainly like to get more of into my collection. I currently have 109 postcards from France catalogued in  my collection.

A Ranger, a Canadien and a Parrot

Random.org chose the following as my random card of the day. This 2019 Upper Deck #88 featuring Filip Chytil of the New York Rangers.

This card comes from what I consider to be a stretch of some of the worst designs in UD flagship memory. For about 3 years there the designs were awful, just silver foil and generic photos. 2019 is in the running for the worst of the lot.

I wonder if Mr. Chytil and I share long lost relatives. We effectively share a last name, if spelled differently, and he's from a town only a couple of hundred kilometers from where my ancestors were from.

I currently own 10 Chytil cards and 870 New York Ranger cards.

My favourite new card I added to my catalogue yesterday is this 2008 Upper Deck - Sophomore Sensations #SS3 featuring Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens.

It came out of the same goalie mystery pack as the Turco from yesterday. Not quite peak Price card greatness, for that it needs to feature his fire engine red pads of later in his career, but a fine addition to the collection nevertheless.

New additions to my all-time roster project catalogued yesterday were:

My All-time roster project now stands at 15,142 combinations.

My random postcard of the day is this card from New Zealand featuring a Kea parrot.

Given the relatively few numbers of New Zealand cards I own, odd that Random.org would pull another so soon, but the random Gods want what the random Gods want. This card is written and was received via an online postcard exchange group. Like I said on the prior, any card featuring native flora or fauna is a winner to me. I currently own 19 postcards from New Zealand.

A Bruin, a Ranger and a Canal

Random.org chose the following as my random card of the day. This 2003 Parkhurst Original Six - Boston #71featuring Joe Thornton.

It is easy to forget just how long Thornton played in the NHL, he was kind of under the radar for a long time in San Jose. But dude is 7th all-time in NHL assists (BTW if someone asked you who was 2nd, would you get the right answer?). Shame he never won a Cup, especially later in his career as his Day with the Cup would have been epic. But he does have an Olympic Gold, and 2 Canada/World Cups to his name. Tend to forget he was good for so long he was on 2016 World Cup winning team.

I currently own 64 Thornton cards and 1,011 Boston Bruins cards.

My favourite new card I added to my catalogue yesterday is this 2021 Upper Deck - UD Canvas #C92 featuring Zac Jones of the New York Rangers.

I don't own too many Canvas Young Guns, but do like the Canvas inserts and will generally pick them up if reasonably priced at a show.

New additions to my all-time roster project catalogued yesterday were none as time spent on cards went to tasks other than cataloguing.

My All-time roster project now stands at 15,128 combinations.

My random postcard of the day is this card from Nyhavn in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Nyhavn is one of the main canals in the centre of Copenhagen leading out to the sea. You don't want to know how much an apartment there goes for. I'm surprised it took Random.org this long to select a Danish postcard as it is the nation I have the largest collection of. (in reality when I finally finish catching up on fully cataloguing my collection, I suspect Canada will be my largest volume, but for now it is Denmark).

I would have bought this card when I lived in Copenhagen. I currently own 698 postcards from Denmark.

In closing, Happy 'We need a long weekend in August' day to my fellow Canucks. Stay cool and safe.

A Sun, A Ranger and a Church

Random.org chose the following as my random card of the day. 2019 Hoops Premium Stock #254 featuring Jalen Lecque of the Phoenix Suns.

According to the writeup on the back he compares athletically to Russell Westbrook. Well, I looked it up, he's played a grand total of 9 NBA games. He is still playing in the G-League. Maybe a year or two of college ball wasn't such a bad idea after all (he declared for the draft straight out of high school).

9 NBA games played, 255 cards produced according to TCDB. Sounds about right , sigh...

I currently own 1 Lecque card and 146 Phoenix Suns cards.

My favourite new card I added to my catalogue yesterday is this 2008 Upper Deck - Spectacular Saves #SAVE-3 insert of Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers. Hank was born to be a Ranger and live in Manhattan, but you can only dream if he could have carried another team to a Cup.

New additions to my all-time roster project catalogued yesterday were:

My all-time roster project now stands at 15,128 combinations.

My random postcard of the day is this card from Israel featuring the Dome of the Rock church in Jerusalem. This card was received via an exchange on an online postcard swap forum. I currently own 12 postcards from Israel.

I just yesterday picked up a lot of approximately 500 postcards for pennies a piece. It will be a while to scan, catalogue etc them and for any to show up here. Bulk lots of postcards can be found, but not as numerous by any means as say bulk card lots.

A Viking, A Viking (SKOL!) and a Window to the Stars.

Random.org chose the following as my random card of the day. This 2020 Panini Select #37 featuring C.J. Ham of the Minnesota Vikings. Ham a...
