A Viking, A Viking (SKOL!) and a Window to the Stars.

Random.org chose the following as my random card of the day. This 2020 Panini Select #37 featuring C.J. Ham of the Minnesota Vikings.

Ham actually made his NFL debut in 2016, but got 'rookie' cards in 2020. Who says fullbacks get no love ? Apparently he's a 2 time pro-bowler. I had no clue fullbacks still got selected to the Pro Bowl. Maybe I need to watch it closer. On second thought, maybe not.

He's a career Viking too. Went to Augustana College in South Dakota who play at the Division 2 level. And their teams are named the Vikings, then signed as a free agent with the NFL Vikings.

I have catalogued in  my collection 2 Ham cards and 176 Minnesota Vikings cards

My favourite new card I added to my catalogue recently is this 2021 O-Pee-Chee Platinum - Sunset parallel #186 featuring Nikolaj Ehlers of the Winnipeg Jets.

Having previously lived in Denmark, I collect cards of Danish players as a mini-PC project, so this was a nice addition.

New additions to my all-time roster project catalogued yesterday were:

  • Atlanta Braves player #149 - Andruw Jones
  • Florida Marlins player #36 - A.J. Burnett
  • Kansas City Royals player #128 - David Lough
  • Los Angeles Dodgers player #166 - Manny Mota

  • Brighton & Hove Albion player #12 - Leandro Trossard
  • Brighton & Hove Albion player #5 - Adam Webster
  • Brighton & Hove Albion player #18 - Danny Welbeck

My All-time roster project now stands at 15,114 combinations.

My random postcard of the day is this card from Los Angeles, California, USA showing the Griffith, but  Park Observatory.

The idea of putting a telescope and observatory where you want to get away from light pollution seems absurd in Los Angeles, but not so strange back in the 1930's. Apparently it is the most viewed telescope (ie number of people who have looked through it) in history. It's more tourist attraction and educational facility than working observatory these days, but still does science.

This card is written and was received through an exchange on an online postcard forum. I currently have 353 cards from the USA catalogued in my collection.

A Buckethead, Uncle Larry, and Well...Something

Random.org chose the following as my random card of the day. This 1991 Parkhurst #412 featuring Michal Pivonka of the Washington Capitals.

Pivonka was a pretty decent player back in the day. More of a setup man than finisher, but someone had to get Peter Bondra the puck. But he was still good for 20  a year in his prime years.

I have catalogued in my collection 8 Bondra cards and 770 Washington Capitals cards.

My favourite new card I added to my catalogue recently is this 2019 Topps Update - 1984 Topps 35th Anniversary # 84-40 featuring Andrew McCutchen of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Why ? Because it's Uncle Larry. We've covered this before. Shame about that uniform though.

My All-time roster project now stands at 15,081 combinations.

My random postcard of the day is this card from the Netherlands.

It depicts well something. No earthly idea what that is supposed to represent or be. But it's cool. This card is written and was received through an online postcard exchange forum. I currently have 55 postcards from the Netherlands catalogued in my collection.

A Pokey Star, A Steal of a Deal and Hills of Chocolate

Random.org chose the following as my random card of the day. This 2020 SkyBox Metal Universe #33 featuring Joe Pavelski of the Dallas Stars.

Pavelski just called it a day on a fine career. Put up 1,068 points, but I'm not sure he's going into the HOF. 1 time all-star, only ever got Hart votes in 2 season. Falls into the 'really nice player for a long time, but not an all-time great' category for me at least. FWIW - that Dallas sweater is an underrated good look.

As an aside, how can a guy have both 'Pokey' and 'Joe Exotic' as nicknames ?

I have catalogued 26 Pavelski cards and 745 Dallas Stars cards in my collection.

My favourite new card I added to my catalogue recently is this 2019 Upper Deck Fanimation #F-26 featuring John Gibson of the Anaheim Ducks.

It was in a dealer's value box at the last show I attended. I didn't realize how rare this insert is, and obviously the dealer didn't either, so it seems I scored myself a pretty sweet deal.

My All-time roster project now stands at 15,079 combinations.

My random postcard of the day is this card from the Philippines featuring the Chocolate Hills on Bohol Island.

They are a karst landscape with the hills covering at least 50 square kilometers. They get their name from the discoloured brown grass during the dry season. The area is a proposed, but not yet listed UNESCO World Heritage site. This card is written and was received through an exchange on an online postcard forum. I currently have 11 postcards from the Philippines catalogued in my collection.

A Shark, A Fantasy Baseball Legend and the Construction Project from Hell

Random.org chose the following as my random card of the day. This 2023 O-Pee-Chee #283 featuring Noah Gregor of the San Jose Sharks.

I'm an OPC fan, it's the roots of collecting, not the hit driven mania of too many sets these days. Gregor's already moved on, he spent last season with the Leafs, we'll always have fond memories of the Noah Gregor era here. And he's already gone away to Ottawa as a free agent. I'm sure his role here will be filled by another anonymous dude on a PTO, Steven Lorentz any one ?

I have catalogued in my collection 1 Gregor card and 680 San Jose Sharks cards. Gregor got a Young Guns, then has completely disappeared from Upper Deck flagship, he's been in OPC the last 2 years. looking it up I see he has Team Canada cards which I'll need to track down one of.

My favourite new card I added to my catalogue recently is this 1986 Topps #769 featuring Harold Reynolds of the Seattle Mariners.

Came in the post via a TCDB trade yesterday. I always smile when I think of Reynolds, thinking back to a fantasy baseball draft I was in where a guy said "I'm going to take a surprise guy with the #4 overall pick in the draft. I think he's a steal for me', who then proceeded to take Reynolds. Needless to say, he didn't win the fantasy league.

New additions to my all-time roster project catalogued yesterday were none

My All-time roster project now stands at 15,070 combinations.

My random postcard of the day is this card from Barcelona, Spain featuring the Sagrada Familia Cathedral.

At this point, it's an open contest to see which project will be done first, the Cathedral or the road construction in Toronto. The Cathedral has a century head start, but the pace of the road projects in Toronto makes it a strong contender to not yet be done before the sun goes supernova.

I currently have 21 postcards from Spain catalogued in my collection.

A Card I Should Have Saved for Friday the 13th, Uncle Larry and Doing it the Old Fashioned Way

Random.org chose the following as my random card of the day. This 2012 In the Game Between the Pipes #144 featuring Bernie Parent of the Philadelphia Flyers.

Oddly that's the 2nd card from this set to be picked by the randomizer in a couple of weeks. All I can say is he's no Gerry Cheevers, at least in terms of artistic styling.

I have catalogued in my collection 4 Parent cards and 811 Philadelphia Flyers cards.

My favourite new card I added to my catalogue recently is this 2023 Topps Holiday #H44 featuring Andrew McCutchen of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Why ? Because it's Uncle Larry. That's all that needs to be said about it.

My random postcard of the day is this card from Ontario Canada featuring a Mennonite farmer

We don't have Amish in Canada like in the US, but the Mennonites are a similar faith. Their faith beliefs are similar, but the Mennonites are generally more accepting of modern technologies, such as allowing electricity and phones. Even motorized vehicles are permitted, although many still do maintain the practice of horse-drawn buggies.

There are actually more Mennonites in the US than in Canada, and most Mennonite communities here actually emigrated from the US in the early part of the 19th century.

I currently have 566 postcards from Canada catalogued in my collection.

A Muppet With a Bat, A Heck of a Trip and an Original Angry Bird

Random.org chose the following as my random card of the day. This 2021 Donruss - Independence Day parallel #81 featuring Justin Turner of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

I had high hopes Turner would provide veteran stability and leadership for the Jays when they signed him this off-season, but his tenure will go down as just another footnote in a lost and wasted season.

I have catalogued 26 Turner cards and 617 Los Angeles Dodgers cards in my collection.

My favourite new card I added to my catalogue recently is this 2020 Topps Pro Debut #PD-123 featuring Brandon Williamson of the Everett AquaSox.

Why my favourite of the day ? Seriously, are you seriously asking why ?

New additions to my all-time roster project catalogued yesterday were none.

My All-time roster project now stands at 15,070 combinations.

My random postcard of the day is this card from Brazil featuring a Burrowing Owl.

This card is written and was received in a trade via an online postcard exchange forum. I currently have 88 postcards from Brazil catalogued in my collection.

A Ray, a Seahawk and a Foxy Fox

Random.org chose the following as my random card of the day. This 2021 Bowman - Chrome Prospects # BCP-134 featuring Shane Baz of the Tampa Bay Rays.

I guess Baz is one of about 93 pitchers the Rays have had on the DL in the last couple of years. At least Topps got this right for a Bowman card, he was a legit prospect. He actually made his MLB debut in 2021, including starting a postseason game. Then came the arm injuries. He's made in back mid summer this year and seems OK so far. But man does the sport need to figure out ways to stop 22 year old pitchers blowing their arms out.

I currently have catalogued in my collection 7 Baz cards and 283 Tampa Bay Rays cards.

My favourite new card I added to my catalogue recently is this 2020 Score - First Score insert #FS-DK featuring D.K. Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks.

I'm not really too much of a football fan, I follow it the least of the 4 major North American sports, and truthfully follow NCAA closer than NFL, but if I can be said to support a team, it would be the Seahawks. So if someone is going to stick a Metcalf relic, even if player worn in their dollar box, I'll part with a loony for it.

New additions to my all-time roster project catalogued yesterday were:

  • Boston Red Sox player # 136 - Kristian Campbell
  • Cincinnati Reds player # 150 - Hunter Hollan
  • Toronto Blue Jays player # 305 - Billy McKinney
  • Washington Nationals player # 87 - MacKenzie Gore
  • Denver Nuggets player # 34 - Christian Braun
  • Denver Broncos player # 64 - Quinton Carter
  • Houston Texans player # 44 - Brandon Harris
  • Jacksonville Jaguars player # 59 - Andre Branch
  • New York Giants player # 60 - David Wilson
  • San Diego Chargers player # 35 - Corey Liuget
  • Tennessee Titans player # 45 - Jamie Harper
  • UCLA Bruins (football) player # 2 - Joseph Fauria

  • Canada (hockey) player # 150 - Lawson Crouse
  • Canada (hockey) player # 151 - John Quenneville
  • Canada (hockey) player # 152 - Nicolas Roy
  • Chicago Wolves player # 19 - Kari Lehtonen
  • Dallas Stars player # 114 - Jack Campbell
  • Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds player # 6 - Lee Cole
  • Toronto Maple Leafs player # 333 - Ron Francis
  • 1. FC Koln player # 4 - Ellyes Skhiri
  • Aston Villa player # 2 - Emiliano Martinez
  • Chelsea FC player # 9 - Andreas Christensen
  • Club Brugge KV player # 4 - Abdoluay Diaby
  • Eintracht Frankfurt player # 3 - Christopher Lenz
  • Everton player # 5 - Fabian Delph
  • FC Bayern Munchen player # 12 - Alphonso Davies
  • Fulham player # 1 - Dennis Odoi
  • Toronto FC player # 3 - Alejandro Pozuelo
  • VfL Wolfsburg player # 8 - Max Kruse

My All-time roster project now stands at 15,076 combinations.

My random postcard of the day is this card from the United Kingdom featuring a Red Fox.

The UK is one of a few nations whose post office tends to release postcards of their stamps. So the postcard is basically a larger format photo of the stamp, typically works with you buy the postcard for the value of the stamp and the postage is included. Canada does the same thing, only we call them pre-paid cards. This card is unwritten and bought as part of a set of 10. Likely somewhere in the UK, but I don't recall exactly where I bought it.

I currently have 224 postcards from the United Kingdom catalogued in my collection.
